Pet owners are often aware of the importance of canine dental hygiene, but the same focus is rarely placed on feline companions. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in cats, yet regular toothbrushing remains overlooked in many households.
In response, Inventor Cat, a Pet Industry Federation (PIF) member, has launched a unique initiative with a dual purpose: to set a new world record for the most cats having their teeth brushed simultaneously online and, at the same time, to educate cat owners on the vital role of dental care in feline health and wellbeing.
This record-breaking attempt is open to cat owners across the UK and aims to raise awareness of feline oral hygiene while making history in the process. Without regular cleaning, plaque and tartar build-up can lead to gum disease, infections, and even more serious health problems affecting the kidneys, liver, and heart. By encouraging participation, the initiative seeks to highlight these risks and provide practical tools to help cat owners introduce a toothbrushing routine at home.
Taking part in the event is straightforward. Once registered, participants will receive step-by-step guidance, tips on getting their cat accustomed to brushing, and a link to access the live online event.
Participants will need a cat-friendly toothbrush and toothpaste for the attempt. Any cat-specific toothbrush is acceptable, but those looking for specialised options may consider products such as the Dental Wand or Ryer Toothbrush, designed to enhance comfort and effectiveness.
The live online event will take place on 8 June 2025 at 7pm (GMT) during which feline dental experts will deliver a short tutorial on brushing techniques and offer advice on how to make the experience positive for cats. After the educational session, participants will simultaneously brush their cats’ teeth as part of the official record attempt.
To help verify the record, participants will be asked to record a short video during the attempt and upload it to Facebook or Instagram, tagging @inventor_cat and @cats_dentalclub.
While the record attempt adds an element of fun, the broader aim is to encourage lasting improvements in feline dental care. Even if some cats aren’t fully comfortable with toothbrushing on the day, the event offers a useful starting point for pet owners to build healthy habits over time.
