Representing the Pet Industry
One of PIF’s most important roles is ensuring that the voice of pet businesses is heard when policies affecting the sector are developed.
PIF works closely with government and industry bodies to shape guidance, animal activities licensing standards and legislation affecting pet businesses.
Through our work with the Canine and Feline Sector Group (CFSG), a coalition of leading animal welfare, veterinary and enforcement organisations that advises DEFRA, PIF has helped develop important sector guidance, including:
- The Grooming Guidelines for Pet Groomers, supporting safe and responsible grooming practices across the industry
- The Code of Practice for Recreational Canine Swimming Pools, providing guidance for businesses offering canine hydrotherapy-style swimming facilities
By contributing practical industry expertise to these initiatives, PIF ensures that policy discussions reflect the realities of running pet businesses while maintaining high welfare standards.
PIF also works with organisations such as the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW) to ensure responsible pet businesses are represented in wider animal welfare discussions.

Pickles Pet Pantry“We joined PIF from the start of our business journey and recommend it to all pet businesses we meet.
During our journey we have accessed support in finding anything from new products to POS systems. However most recently we had to overcome some hurdles needing their free legal advice, something that we can only describe as invaluable. Without PIF we simply wouldn’t have the store we have today. Having a membership with a federation like PIF really ups your game.”

There are so many other benefits to being a PIF member, from partner discounts to networking with other businesses in the industry, it really is a worthwhile investment.”
