Petgevity, part of the Staysure Group, has become the first pet insurer to partner with Petscribers, a Pet Industry Federation member. The collaboration provides policyholders with access to a vet-founded platform that enables owners to compare prices for prescription medications from government-accredited pharmacies.
The partnership aims to assist owners in managing the costs of ongoing treatments. According to Petgevity data, medication accounts for approximately 40 per cent of all claims. By facilitating access to accredited online pharmacies through the Petscribers platform, the initiative is designed to help policyholders lower their regular expenses and preserve more of their insurance coverage for unexpected veterinary emergencies.
This development aligns with recent findings from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which highlighted a lack of transparency in the UK veterinary market. The CMA revealed that many pet owners are unaware they can request a written prescription to purchase medication from alternative sources, often at a lower cost than those offered directly through clinical settings.
Dr Emma Pemberthy, co-founder of Petscribers, noted that the platform was designed to protect the ability of owners to afford care when their pets require it most. Kerry Willecome, Head of Marketing at Petgevity, stated that the partnership aims to provide owners with confidence and clarity when managing pet health. Future phases of the collaboration are expected to include an integrated savings calculator and a more streamlined digital journey for policyholders.
