Multi-award-winning independent pet retailer Pickles Pet Pantry has secured a double victory at the prestigious MK Inspiration Awards. Based in the historic market town of Olney, the family-run business and its sister organisation, Pickles Cani Running Club, contested four separate finalist categories during the regional gala ceremony. By the conclusion of the evening, co-founders and spouses Katie Parker and Jack Avery each claimed top honours, reinforcing the significant community impact achieved by the independent pet business since its commercial launch.
The regional awards ceremony celebrates organisations, individuals, and independent operations delivering distinct positive contributions across Milton Keynes and the surrounding counties. Deputy Mayor of Milton Keynes City Council, Keith McLean, who attended the event, extended formal praise to the Olney-based team, highlighting their additional competitive nomination for overall Business of the Year. He noted that witnessing the husband-and-wife team secure individual accolades for sports leadership and entrepreneurial excellence marked a tremendous achievement for the local business community.
The individual accolades recognise the multi-faceted expansion of the brand. Katie Parker was named Upcoming Entrepreneur of the Year, a testament to her strategic leadership in piloting the shop from a standalone boutique into an active community asset. Under her guidance, the business launched its own proprietary pet food brand, Only in Olney, developed customized dietary health consultation programmes, and maintained an ethical stance prioritising evidence-based canine nutrition. Jack Avery was crowned Inspiring Athlete of the Year, acknowledging his swift ascent to the elite tiers of competitive Canicross, where he serves as the Midlands Short Course Champion while training a pack of four rescued canine partners.
The entrepreneurial couple established Pickles Cani Running Club in January 2025 to create an inclusive, force-free fitness outlet for regional dog owners. The community group has since scaled to encompass more than 60 active runners, providing complimentary gear loans to eliminate financial barriers to entry while supporting nervous rescue dogs to build confidence through active lifestyle enrichment. Commenting on the wins, the co-founders noted that the trophies belong equally to their dedicated client base, highlighting that small business resilience is entirely driven by staying transparent, working hard, and putting companion animal welfare at the core of every operational decision.
